My
team's service trip to New Orleans changed me in a certain way.
I had never been in the midst of such a tragedy where at every
moment, no matter how subtle, I could see the impact that the
Katrina disaster had on the city, the people and the volunteers.
I feel really fortunate to have had the opportunity to go on
this trip.
The graciousness and sense of humor that the people in this city
possess is unbelievable. They must have been so weary of
thanking volunteers, who could so easily remove themselves from
the situation, but they deeply appreciated everyone who came to
help and they were so determined to get their lives back. The
trip was an inspiration that made me think about how such beauty
and humanity can shine through such a horrific situation.
