My
mentee shared with me during an after school activity, that in
her 5th period English class she wrote about me. I asked her why
me? She shared that the assignment was to write about someone
who was a hero to you. I was so shocked and honored!
I
never think of myself as a hero! When I think of heroes (or
sheroes), I think of family, elders in the community,
schoolteachers, and “leaders”. I would never imagine my mentee
to speak so highly of me.
It
was certainly a nice pick-me-up that day!
