ServeMinnesota is committed to the inclusion of qualified
individuals regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion,
sexuality, marital status, or disability.
We believe that all individuals who are qualified and want to
serve their community should have the opportunity to do so.
ServeMinnesota employs an Inclusion Program Officer to work with
programs, disability organizations, colleges and universities, and
the larger disability community to spread the word about AmeriCorps
and ensure that Minnesota’s AmeriCorps programs are as inclusive as
possible. Minnesota’s AmeriCorps programs should reflect the rich
diversity that makes up the communities they serve!
In the 2006-2007 program year Minnesota had 113 of 569 (20%) AmeriCorps
members disclose a disability, serving in 12 programs throughout the
state. ServeMinnesota wants to make sure we continue having people
with disabilities serve in Minnesota’s AmeriCorps programs.
Money is set aside each year for programs to provide reasonable
accommodations for interviewing applicants, and for members who
serve throughout the program year. We want to have all of
Minnesota’s AmeriCorps members realize their fullest potential and
have a successful year giving back to their community!
If you are someone with a disability who has more questions about
serving in one of Minnesota’s AmeriCorps programs feel free to
contact the director of a program directly, or ServeMinnesota’s
Inclusion Program Officer at: Ph/TTY 612-333-7743 or email:
ryank@serveminnesota.org.
