Funding will support replication of Minnesota Reading Corps, one of the largest AmeriCorps programs in the nation and a strategic initiative of ServeMInnesota, in D.C. and Denver.
As we approach our 10th year as a nonprofit organization, ServeMinnesota has emerged as a national leader in developing private-public partnerships to support educational improvement strategies.
They are members of the Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps, serving in preschools and elementary and middle schools throughout the state, tutoring one-on-one or in small groups with children who are having difficulty mastering their reading or math skills.
After undergoing a rigorous competition to receive a slice of $234 million in federal AmeriCorps grants, ServeMinnesota programs received $14.5 million from the Corporation for National and Community Service, a 25 percent increase over funding in 2009.
