I am responsible for the finances of ServeMinnesota. I knew in high school that I wanted to be an accountant, but here it is more than just accounting work. At ServeMinnesota, our finance team supports the programs by reviewing and making recommendations for their budgets during the application process, doing reviews or visits to make sure they are spending the funding appropriately and tracking it accurately, and we are here to answer questions and to provide support on the finance side of the grant as needed.
One of my favorite service experiences was an AmeriCorps week project at a Children’s Garden. I brought my oldest daughter, who was about 10 at the time. It was incredible to see her helping at this garden, and to see her learning about gardening and why they need that garden, who benefits from it. It was a great experience, and it led to my daughters going to a canning and jamming summer program at that park.
